How the scanner works

MyScanity scans US stocks and ETFs for clearly defined setup patterns and turns every match into a trade plan with entry, stop, and targets. This page states the criteria, the data sources, the update cadence — and the limits.

What the scanner does

The scanner is a rule engine, not a prediction model. It tests the covered market for technical patterns, ranks matches by relative strength, and turns only the most viable candidates into a plan.

A plan names an entry zone, a stop derived from current volatility (ATR), and targets in R multiples. The app shows whether a setup is tradeable, already in the portfolio, still waiting for its trigger, or deliberately skipped ("no_plan", "blacklisted").

The scanner places no orders, manages no real brokerage account, and makes no decisions for you. Execution and risk stay with the human.

Setup criteria

Every match has to pass several filters at the same time. If one is missing, the candidate is not presented as a tradeable setup.

Data sources

Calculations use daily OHLCV prices adjusted for splits and dividends, plus index membership, sector/country metadata, and basic company records.

There are deliberately no paid news feeds, no intraday tick data, no options flow, and no fundamentals scoring. Anything not derivable from daily prices and market structure is not part of the signal.

Update cadence

The main run happens after the US market close. Setups, plans, and the market-regime read are then available for the trading day; the app shows the data date.

The methodology itself is versioned: changes to criteria or thresholds are code changes and are reflected on this page with the last-updated date.

Limits — and what this is not

The technical and legal basis is public: risk disclaimer, terms, and the agent documentation are linked. Programmatic users find scopes, limits, and error codes in the API guide.
